Quality service becoming a thing of the past! Brand name ! You are important to use and we value your business. Oh yeah! Choose from the following options ‘Press1’ for a long wait, ‘Press 2″ To get cut off, ‘Press 3’ To cause a purchase regret.
Sheesh. Another screw up in the world of efforts to keep program / computer harmony in full bloom. With all due respect, will acknowledge that it’s an amazing situation, that programs and computers do mostly function trouble free. With hackers dreaming up ways to mess up your computer online pleasure, with their virus crap, it start to be a nightmare. Getting to the point where programs wont allow one to use any function to protect you from viruses. Why would I want any computer program, that locks the computer down so tight, that you can’t use your other programs! There are no readily available means to effectively pin down a program incompatibility situation. Hours of time spent to get no place. Had been using CyberLink with no problem. No need to make a DVD copy for a few months, so now I do need a DVD copy and now find , that the program won’t work. Getting intelligent corrective help is an excursion into total insanity. Had, way back in my early computer experiences, followed some advice from computer makers help desk. Total disaster mostly. Finally realized, that one is basically on their own, when help is required. Quality assistance has long left most companies. You bought their program or computer, tough, now suffer, don’t bother us, with your stupid plea for help. Oh yes, some companies offer paid assistance, what a joke that is. First though, you have to learn another language, to understand the person, then go through the frustration of them, going by ‘the book’ of ‘what to say’ to customers. They totally ignore what you are saying, and ask ‘is your unit plugged in’ and powered! That comment, right after you tell them ‘exactly what the circumstances are’. Like, for instance ‘ when I click the icon for ‘Power2Go’ on my desktop, nothing happens, and then they ask ‘is the computer turned on’. Give me a break. One program, their program, won’t open. So they now say ‘ restore’ the operating system. Use a ‘go back point’. Check for viruses. reset the BOIS. Holy crap, are you even awake, I just told you ‘those things were already done’. Soooo, anyway am still looking for an answer. CyberLink, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Dell, Microsoft, FireFox, does anyone care at all about the customer, anymore!
Oh, pardon, some do start special forums for people to share their stories. Most every company has done that. Thank you. Now, why are you not intelligent enough to go into your own forums and give assistance to the problems listed. Oh, silly me, I forgot, the ‘Suits’ got a ‘golden parachute’ and good ‘technical personnel’ is a drain, so no money is left for your customers assistance.
Oh, by the way ‘we laid off more technical help, to better serve you’!!!!!!!!!

I recently purchased PowerDirector v7 Deluxe. With the registration came the opportunity to download (for free) Power2Go (v5 – I think!). Downloaded this, and it would not open the Power2Go, or Power2Go Express – all other items on the menu opened (registration etc.). I have been in touch with technical support who told me to uninstall, download, and re-install. Have done this a few times now – no success with the programe starting. Also, I have informed technical support that there is no sign of Power2Go in my registry. So far, they have offered no explanation/solution for this.

This happened to a previous programme Power Director 3 – technical support just could not fix it.

Any suggestions as to what is going wrong with this programme.

Douglas.

There might be software compatibility issue if you have other burning software installed.
You can try the following to see if it works:
1. Uninstall other exisiting burning software and re-install Power2Go
2. Update your OS to latest service pack

Ok, Same Power2go ver 4.0.
As supplied by Gateway.
All had worked normal for couple years.
Had not needed to use it for many months.
Was going to update with the Gateway special to full version.
Icon will show brief hourglass and just fade away with nothing happening.
Did all the registry and remove program.
Did a Gateway Application recovery, with the same nothing happens.
If I invoke Power2go with “Run As’ Administrator, it will run.
So a clash of some kind exists, when run under ‘owner’, but how does one pin down the clashing program.
Cyberlink support gave info, followed it, until the OEM download point that wont accept the signin they gave me to use.
One thing of note, but not aware what to do with it, is when the compatability Wizard is used, but no changes applied, Power2go will work until a reboot takes place, and again wont start normally.
So……..

8:13pm
Was sent a new password that did work to get the download that was OEM as used by Gateway. That is a biggie file. Anyway the end result is the same, it will NOT open. Tried the “run As” as Administrator, it was again able to open and run Poer2go. What now!

I’m having the same issue and reported it to tech support and am waiting to see the response. I uninstalled v5.5 and installed the latest trial version and that works fine- except that it is a 30 day trial.

In frustration, downloaded the free 30 day trial, and it will not open. So a compatibility problem exists, but why do I need to jump through hoops and loops to make it work! The original did work, but how to pin down what new whatever has caused it to not work now. Don’t need the aggravation.

same problem to me. WinXp Serv.Pack 3, Power2Go vers. 4.0 won´t work.

(1/23/2009 Update)Still endeavoring to get Power2Go to properly open.
Just sent another request to cyberLink stating:
“So, I’m stuck with a program that used to work , but now fails to open. You are requesting that I use the program on another computer! That is crazy. There is a compatibility conflict. I mentioned this in my prior contact, that Power2go DOES open if one does use the Win XP compatibility Wizard, without making any changes, but reverts back to ‘wont open upon doing a reboot’. Have performed all you requested to do, without success. So, I gather all the brilliant engineers at CyberLink are unable to assist me, but want me to get another computer to use that program on! What ever happened to Pride in Service! ”

Awkward and odd situation, I realize this. Gateway, wants to sell me a $25.00 disk containing a few outdated (at this date) original programs. Who needs old programs, much less pay for them! Microsoft doesn’t care! CyberLink unable to correct! Gateway not interested in helping! Did another Google search today. Got 50,700 hits with “CyberLink Power2Go won’t open”. Am willing to bet that many are a plain compatibility problem, but how does one actually correct that situation! Will also repeat here, that even downloading the FREE TRIAL version of Power2Go , won’t run.
So are you having a problem like this !
…………………………………………….
(1/27/2009 Update)Can recall those days when a tooth problem led to ones tongue probing at that tender spot over and over, until the tooth problem was resolved. Same with the ailing Power2Go program. I click the Icon and a momentary flash of the busy hourglass signal before it fades away with no program opening. I was surprised when doing that same icon click,on the 26th, and lo and behold the Power2go program opened. I had changed nothing, added nothing, Why did it open now but not before! Didn’t try to make a DVD, as I’m using a freeware program now in place of the paid for Power2go. Was again surprised two hours later, when the Power2Go wouldn’t open when the icon was clicked. No reboot, nothing added or taken off, so what is happening, to cause this unusual situation! No response back from CyberLink yet to my last yelp for help.

Hello CyberLink Engineers,
Have followed the latest detailed instructions to reinstall Power2Go, with no success in getting it to open and run. Am weary of all the efforts I’ve put into following your instructions, most of which are repeats of prior sent details. Nonetheless I follow the latest sent.
This is reaching ludicrous and silly status.
There is a conflict of some type. If the designers of this Power2Go program are unable to help me, say so. I’m going to say, something is preventing the program from opening, there is, from my point of view, nothing wrong with the original installed program, yet you at CyberLink keep asking me to reinstall (at great loss of my time) the program. You need to recheck how or what prevents the program from opening. Some thing in common with hundreds of other CyberLink Power2Go users complaining same as I, ‘Wont open”, even though the same program HAD always functioned properly, but now wont open. Doing a Google ‘Search’ for “Power2Go wont open’ validates my comments here. Help getting our program to open!
(Results 1 – 10 of about 11,300 for Power2Go wont open. )

Went through the whole process again. The process is from CyberIink, and details the step by step way to uninstall, clear the Power2Go entries in the registry, reboot, all done exactly as defined in the instructions.
Same situation. Will not activate when invoked to open.

Does anyone have or know of a tracker program, that might detail what happens when a program is invoked and fails to open or run properly!
Surely CyberLink is aware of the many frustrated users with their program, that wont open. They do know of at least one, mine, but they seem content to just repeat over and over the same ‘help’ that does not correct the problem.

Win XP Media Center Edition Ver 2002
CyberLink Power2Go Ver 4.0 , Won’t open
Well now, seems that the only hing that actually happens , is that Cyberlink keeps sending the same response as an answer. Follow these instructions they say. I follow those instructions, and no change takes place the friggin Power2Go still won’t open.
Have told them in my responses, that there is nothing wrong with the Power2go program as it opens when I ‘run it as Administrator’. When run as ‘Owner’ it will not open. Have turned off Firewalls, Anti-virus, cleaned registry, checked for Bots, followed Cyberlinks suggestions six (6) times, removed MS Service Pack 3, and nothing corrects this ‘Wont open’ situation. Looks like Cyberlink is counting on my just giving up and letting them off the hook. Won’t happen, believe me. Will no doubt, turn out to be a simple solution, but I’m not the designer or engineer or programmer with CyberLink, If I were , I would be ashamed of leaving customers without real corrective help.

(2/13/09 Update)
A freeware program by the way, called ‘CDBurnerXP Pro’ runs fine in ‘Owners mode’, so why can’t Cyberlink get their act together and give me some real assistance with their purchased Power2go program that will not open anymore

Your inquiry has been received.

Dear Engineers at Cyberlink,
In response to my latest ( #5) complaint on the same problem, of ‘Power2Go Won’t Open’ you now make this idiotic statement:

‘Dear Patrick,
Thanks for writing back.
We understand your concern related with the Power2Go 4 software.
In response to your issue we would like to inform you that Power2Go 4 software will not run from Non-Administrative user log-in.
We always suggest and recommend to run Power2Go 4 software from within the ‘Administrative’ log-in.’
———-
You only mention this because you finally read what I wrote here. I had now ‘left out’ what apparently was confusing you, by fully describing the ‘wont open problem’. I apologize for confusing you with actual facts describing the CyberLink Power2Go ‘won’t open’ problem. Now you are again not reading, are ignoring and misunderstanding what I wrote again. So here goes again:

THIS CYBERLINK POWER2GO VER 4, DVD RECORD PROGRAM, ALWAYS DID WORK IN ‘OWNERS’ MODE LOG-IN. what DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THOSE WORDS!
The ‘Owners’ mode log-in has FULL Administrators permissions and rights. If you don’t know how to fix the problem, then you should remove this product from the market and STOP selling it.
What is shameful for Cyberlink, is that I have now installed my old freeware, DVD record program using the same settings in the Owners mode, and IT RUNS FINE.

(WOW got a fast response back from CyberLink to the above. Do all this for a commercially sold program, that won’t open anymore, while a freeware, program for recording DVD/CD’s, just installs and runs fine! May try some of what Cyberlink suggests, but have already done most of it before even contacting them. Will perhaps just remove Cyberlink from my computer, and run the freeware DVD record program. Am showing what I received, as it just might assist some of you with a similar problem with Power2Go, and might even correct your situation.)

(Here is that fast response received at 8:39 AM, 2-17-2009)

Thank you for contacting CyberLink Technical Support.
We understand your concern related with launching Power2Go software.

Please follow the steps given below:

1 Please reset your display settings, screen area to 800X600, color depth to 16 bit and monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ.

2 Please close Anti Spy ware program and other utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch Power2Go software.

Also if you have installed service pack 2 for XP on your system then please disable it’s pop-up blocker service.

3. Now please right click on (Power2Go) icon at desktop and go to properties -> Compatibility tab -> here uncheck all the option present.

Now, try to launch software.

If Power2Go still not launch, please try the steps given below:

Rename OLRSubmission to Submission folder under
C:\programs files\CyberLink\Power2Go, if available.

If the issue persists, uninstall other CD/DVD burning software like Nero, EasyCD Creator, Direct CD etc. Two burning software’s installed on same computer are known to cause conflict due to common files in them. Then reinstall the Power2Go software (by following steps):

(a) Start –> Programs –> CyberLink Power2Go –> uninstall

(b) Start –> Run (Type “regedit”) –> HKEY_Current_User –> Software –> CyberLink –> Power2Go (Delete the folder)

(c) Start –> Run (Type “regedit”) –> HKEY_Local_Machine –> Software –> CyberLink –> Power2Go (delete the folder).

(d) Restart the Computer.

(e) Reinstall Power2Go software.

We request you to please have enough space on your hard drive where you are trying to install the software.

If issue still persists then please Start Windows in Selective Startup mode and verify.

a. Click on Start.
b. Click on Run.
c. Type msconfig and click on OK.
d. A System Configuration Utility window will come up.
e. On General tab, select Selective Startup.
f. Uncheck “Load Startup Items”.
g. Click on Apply.
h. Click on OK.
i. Click on Close.
j. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click on “Restart”.

If issue still persists then kindly try the software in a different Computer, if it works then you need to format the operating system to resolve the issue.

Well I’m making progress with Power2Go, but in the wrong direction. Went through all the steps again, as suggested by CyberLink. Must be a CyberLink jinx or some thing at play here. Now the Power2Go program WON’T even open in ‘Administrators’ mode, What happened this time I don’t know, but some friggen ‘deny’ permission must have hit that ‘Administrators mode’. Annoying is that I’m unable to locate anything that is doing the ‘Denial’ for opening it. Did yield to sending CyberLink a ‘thanks for nothing’ note. I know, that’s unkind, but I’m really annoyed, that the maker of the CyberLink Power2Go program, are unable to give intelligent assist. Oh well, will try another time, maybe!

In the registry looking for anything unusual, related to Power2Go.
Make a backup of this registry first. Did searches for “DisableNXShowUI” that I had found in the compatability check.
With more delving into this situation, I had to go to:

“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers” and change “DisableNXShowUI” to “EnableNXShowUI”

This reenabled me to get ‘Power2go’ back to at least starting again, when using “Administrator mode’.

As always be careful doing anything in the registry.

Finding more tid-bits of what works and what won’t with Cyberlink Power2Go, ‘wont open’ problem. Listing three conditions here:
1- right click “Start\open all users”
2- right click “Start\explore all users”
I can from these locations (1 and 2) get Power2Go, to ‘open and run’.

3-left click “Start\Programs\Cyberlink DVD Solutions\Power2Go” from this location, and the Power2Go program ‘ Will NOT open”. Clicking an Icon for Power2Go in the ‘start’ menu here, ‘will NOT open’ Power2Go.

So in my case here, seems it is purely a ‘security and/or permission’ problem. Have conveyed this information to Cyberlink. Next they will probably say ‘program is ok’ so contact Gateway or Microsoft, and the vicious cycle would commence, with each finger pointing to the other as being the source of the problem.

Oh well, will as time and interest prevail, keep looking for the reason this program failed and the corrective solution.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

( 4/29/2009 Update )
What a way to frustrate one’s self. Managed to ‘lock’ my self out of gaining access to the security console. Only by going back to my just made ‘Restore point’ was I able to get back control.
Found and tried infomation on shutting ‘off’ DEP, as there was some information in forums that indicated ‘success’ with other programs that DEP manages to mess up. It didn’t help my situation though. An aside to all my Power2Go problems, DEP does mess up opening ‘My Computer’. It (DEP) will close the ‘My Computer’ page down. (Now why in hell would one want a computer so ‘secure’ that even the computer owner is unable to use that function.)

Anyway back to the problem with Cyberlinks Power2Go. I can now get Power2Go, to run, from various locations on my computer. But am not able to get Power2Go to run when the ‘Desktop’ Icon is clicked. If I ‘right click’ the ‘Desktop Icon’ and do a ‘Run As’ with the ‘Administrator’ setting, I can get the Power2Go program to run. If I create and move an Icon to the Desktop, from the Power2Go file, that shortcut ‘won’t’ work on the Desktop, but will work if that same ‘shortcut icon is ‘clicked from within the original Power2Go directory. Crazy crap.

More crazy crap, is that doing a ‘right click’ on the ‘Start’ button, clicking ‘Explore All Users’, locating the file ‘All Users’and opening it, locate the ‘Start Menu’ and click it. I find Power2Go shown there in ‘Programs’. In the right pane there is shown ‘shortcuts, that ‘will’ open Power2Go. If you move that same working shortcut to any listed ‘Desktop’ it won’t work.

Sheesh, how to decipher what needs to be ‘set, reset, altered, given permission, or an altered Policy change to tame this beast called Power2Go.

Further crazy crap, is setting Permissions and Policy setting. In some instances, turning off’ a setting is actually turning ‘on a function’. So you commence to believe that holds true with the other settings, NOT so. In the same area turning ‘on’ a setting is turning ‘off a function’. It gets even better, concerns crazy crap, when using the’ Not Configured, Enable, and Disabled’ as numerous demons are let loose if not carefully read in the ‘Explain This’ window.

Ah nuts how I long for the good old pure DOS days, where one could actually understand the program. Of course many later useful goodies would just be gone.
Still stuck.
